Ingredients: Olive oil, Grape seed oil, Mango butter, Cocoa butter, Shea butter, Distilled water, Lye, Activated charcoal powder, Cocoa powder
I am a dark chocolate kind of girl, and working with soap where every recipe contains cocoa butter I naturally decided to make a chocolate soap. What goes better together than chocolate and charcoal? A lot of things, but my brain is weird and I decided that this was a combination that I wanted to do.
With the combination of activated charcoal and cocoa powder, this soap will lather a dark gray. While it won’t stain your skin, it might turn your washcloths gray. They should come out fine in the wash, but don’t hold me to that. I thought it best to put that bit of info out there.
That being said, the cocoa powder does more than just turn soap brown, not that it matters with the charcoal powder, and give off a pleasant scent. It’s wonderful for the skin in helping promote new skin growth, which will help firm the skin. Cocoa powder’s antioxidant properties also helps damaged skin. It even helps with blood flow to the skin and improves skin hydration.
Our activated charcoal powder comes from wood and goes through a high steam activation process. The activation process increases the charcoal’s ability to absorb and filter by increasing its surface area
While it seems like everyone talks about the benefits of activated charcoal powder, I will still tell you that it helps the skin by absorbing toxins and chemicals. Something you might not know is that it is a very gentle exfoliator. This increases the glow of your skin as it removes dead skin cells. It’s perfect for oily skin as it is somewhat drying.
Let me tell you that I’m very glad I currently have a dark-colored wardrobe as activated charcoal is very fine and gets everywhere. It poofs when you unscrew the lid and if you’re not careful it will end up in places you don’t want it to be.
